Darcie is a recipient of a Shaw Scientist Award

Darcie is a recipient of a Shaw Scientist Award from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. The Foundation’s annual Shaw Scientist Program supports early career investigators seeking promising solutions in biochemistry, biological sciences and cancer research. The awards began in 1982 thanks to a $4.3 million bequest from Dorothy Shaw, widow of James Shaw, a prominent Milwaukee attorney. In addition to $2 million in special grants, the Shaws’ fund has awarded nearly $15 million in grants to 78 scientists from UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee since its creation. An advisory panel with scientists representing major U.S. research institutions recommends the winners.

Jieun is selected for a summer program at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging

Jieun will be spending her summer in the lab of Jennifer Garrison at the Buck Institute in California as part of the highly competitive SENS Research Foundation Summer Scholars Program. Congratulations!

Cell Stem Cell Preview written by the Moore Lab is published

A Preview written by Chris and Darcie on a paper from the lab of Ana Martin-Villalba was published in Cell Stem Cell. It suggests that extrinsic influences from the niche drive stem cell aging.

Congratulations to Tiaira for being awarded a SCRMC training award!

Tiaira was also awarded a 1 year Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center (SCRMC) training award, which she had to decline after receiving T32 funding from the Institute on Aging. SCRMC kindly then gave her an honorary award.

Darcie presents new work from the lab at the Fusion Aging Conference and Fusion Neurogenesis Conference in the Bahamas

Darcie gave talks at both conferences, while Chris presented a poster at the Fusion Neurogenesis conference.

Darcie is awarded a DP2 NIH New Innovator Award

Darcie was awarded one of 58 NIH New Innovator Awards for 2018. This award, from the NIH Common Fund, provides funding to extraordinarily creative scientists proposing highly innovative research to address major challenges in biomedical science. The grants are part of the NIH High-Risk, High-Reward Research Program, which supports ideas with potential for great impact in biomedical research from across the broad scope of the NIH.

“This program supports exceptionally innovative researchers who have the potential to transform the biomedical field,” said NIH Director Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D.

The NIH Director’s New Innovator Award, established in 2007, supports unusually innovative research from early career investigators who are within 10 years of their final degree or clinical residency and have not yet received a research project grant or equivalent NIH grant.

Congratulations to Chris for winning the Blitz talk award at the Fall SCRMC conference

Chris won the Best Blitz talk award at the Stem cell and regenerative medicine center’s (SCRMC’s) fall conference. His 3 minute talk won him a $1000 travel award for his upcoming conference!
